Yesterday when I read the Yarn Harlot's newest post, I felt a little disappointed in myself. I don't cherish or covet any of my sweaters enough to wear it multiple times a week, let alone being my "go to" piece of wardrobe.
I LOVE the sweaters I make. I love them so much I feel like I need to save them. Save them for something special. Or when I know other people will see them. Or when I'm going to a knitting event. I keep them specially folded in my closet for special occasions (which truly are few and far between at my house).
This is not a well thought out plan.
I should cherish them by wearing them. Wearing them as much as I can (factoring in my intense vanity that does not allow me to wear the same thing two days in arow). And not wearing them just to show them off.
This morning I pulled out a sweater. And I wore it for no particular reason other than to wear it. I'm doing the same thing tomorrow. And the next day.
I'm going to cherish them. And cherish wearing them. That's why I made them.

Day of rest
Tomorrow is a rest day in Le Tour and I'm going to rest as well. I'm about 1/2 done the shawl (and halfway done the yarn) so I'm ahead of schedule. I need a little break from the blanket. It's only been just over a week, but it's not like me to immerse myself so fully in a project.
I may work on my shawl for the Edmonton Knitters lace-a-long as I haven't started Clue 3 yet...

Or I may start the sleeves on my cardigan...
Or try both?

Tedious, Stale, Boring
Stocking stitch. An interminable amount of stocking stitch.
Actually - this project is my interlude. Respite from the insanity of the last few days of school and the upswing of summer.
You would think that would mean a loathing of this project.

It is a painfully slow project, but I'm enjoying it. For now.

The Lure of Lace
I wouldn't call myself an experienced knitter or an advanced knitter. I can do a few nifty tricks like cable, but haven't knit a lot with seriously difficult patterns. But lately I've got this urge to knit lace. Not sure where it came from. I'm not a girly girl and I don't normally run around in lacely, Victorian-like clothes, but I have this need to knit some.
For mother's day I received a copy of No Sheep for You and there is an AMAZING shawl called Tuscany. It is beautiful and I think it will be my first major lace project (other than socks, but those don't really count). I've never worn a shawl and can't say I can see wearing one in the near future but this pattern is so beautiful I can't help but make it. There are some pics of finished ones on the No Sheep Knit-a-long. VERY nice. I bought some red merino lace weight (lost the ball band already...par for the course) to knit it up. A little bit of a lighter weight yarn than what it was originally knit with but I wanted to try lace weight. It's taking forever to wind up into a ball (I have a swift, manufactured by J. and her sister-in-law) but not a ball winder - can see know why you should have both.
Once it's wound I will start. Therefore I need to get a lot of other things off the needles first - like a birthday sweater for my god-daughter and a father's day present for my husband (not saying what, as he is likely lurking....). I know once I start the Tuscany I won't be able to stop, so it's not a bad thing it's taking so long to wind the yarn up.
Will keep you posted with the Tuscany progress....
