Perceptions and a Poll

These days, I'd like to look like this...

but I feel more like this.
Hormones can be cruel.
Fortunately, my ankles are still shapely and my feet are unpuffy so I've been thinking about sock knitting. I think I've already told you that I like my socks from the top down on DPNs. I think that's because that's how I started knitting them and that's my comfort zone. In an effort to shake things up, I started a sock on two circs. I don't mind this technique but I'm pretty slow because I'm still getting used to it.
This has got me wondering how people like to knit their socks. So here you have it.
J's Informal Sock Poll
1. Do you like DPNS or Circs? If you like circs, do you like one or two?
2. Do you knit one sock at a time or two?
3. Do you have trouble finishing a pair or do you finish both socks before moving on?
4. What's your favorite fibre for socks?
5. What's the weirdest thing you've knit socks out of?
6. What's your favorite number of stitches to cast on for yourself?
7. Who's got the biggest feet in your life and do you knit them socks?
Leave me a comment. Answers to be compiled however I see fit. Let me know about your socks.
It keeps my mind off my ever expanding middle.

J, hormones are cruel but I can honestly say you've never looked more beautiful to me! Angelina - peh! Has she completed 2 1/2 marathons? A pharmacy degree? Adjusted doses in renal failure? Raised children without a nanny? I think not!

I like to knit on DPNs. I'm not very adventurous that way. I knit one pair at a time because otherwise I'd have tons of singles lying around. I have 3 projects unfinished and I'm about to lose my mind over it! I cast on 60 stitches unless the pattern calls for something else and plain old merino is my YOC. Dennis has size 11 feet and I've knit for him.

1. Circs...one. (magic loop)
2. One sock at a time.
3. By finishing do you mean sewing up the toe and loose ends? That part I have trouble with...when done the knitting both socks I feel "done" and want to move on.
4. No favorite fiber.
5. Weirdest thing...nothing weird here.
6. 60-68 depending on yarn and pattern.
7. Hubby...mens 13. Have knitted 3 pairs. Only when I forget how big his feet really are. And only plain st st...so I can zoom along fast.

1. DPNs although I can see the benefit of 2 circs
2. 1 at a time
3. Try to limit to one pair of socks at a time, but right now I have one sleeping finished sock.
4. Hand-dyed wool (100%)
5. Tofutsies
6. 64. The best.
7. My love - 'bout size 12.

1. I've done circs and they're okay, but I truly love five dpns. Love, love, love.

2. Which means... one at a time.

3. I'm pretty good at doing the second. I make sure by casting on for the second immediately the first comes off. Of course, that doesn't mean that I only do one pair at a time... ;^)

4. Wool. No question. Though to be fair... I've not tried anything else. I'm in the middle of a wool bamboo blend now and I don't hate it...

5. Hmmm... never done weird really. I did do a ginormous pair with fair isle patterns at the leg in a chunky weight and then felted them.

6. 64. But I often do extra decreases at the gusset. I have big ankles and small feet.

7. I only knit socks for myself (except for the two felted pairs), because they just take... Too. Damn. Long.
Although there was that just finished pair of jaywalkers done the day before DH remembered that his Mom's birthday was that weekend. But that wasn't an intentional knit for others.

I'm sure you don't really look like that. All pregnant women are beautiful. I like to knit socks top down on 5 dpns. My favorite fiber is merino wool(with some nylon). Not that I won't buy the 100% merino wool. I've been thinking about trying magic loop but I guess old habits really do die hard, because thinking is as far as I've gotten. Hang in there that little one will be here faster than you think.

1. DPNS (2 circs if I do knee highs)
2. Depends on my mood
3. I usually have 2 pairs on the go at once
4. Superwash
5. Cotton. It was horrible
6. 72, 2mm needles
7. Don't usually do socks for other people

Oh, and I think you look beautiful. In that platonic, hetero way of course!

Thanks, Jill. That means a lot. In the most hetero way, of course.

God, you make me laugh. And seriously, look like much more like the first pic than the second.

Sorry, it seems I have missed your poll, but better late than never.
1. I have only used DPNS.
2. One sock at a time.
3. No, I finish both socks.
4. 75% wool and 25% polyamid.
5. Don´t think I used any weird material for socks.
6. I usually cast on 64 stitches, but depends on the pattern
7. I made a pair of socks for my brother-in-law´s grandchild (15 years old) and he has big feet. The first pair was too small.

My Froot Loop Socks are ready and I will publish photos on Ravelry later today.
